Interested in drug and addiction therapy, Addison McFerrin is enrolled at Iowa State University, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s in psychology. She spent a year as an addiction counselor at House of Mercy in Des Moines, Iowa, using her experience in substance abuse training to develop and implement treatment plans. In addition, she managed a caseload of 50 patients diagnosed with substance dependence and co-occurring Axis I and II disorders. Addison McFerrin also led day treatment groups and therapeutic activities that addressed behavioral issues and taught functional living skills.
When her daughter was diagnosed with autism at age 3, Addison McFerrin developed an interest in child psychology, as she frequently interacted with her daughter’s team of specialists, psychiatrists, and psychologists.
A consistent honor roll student, Ms. McFerrin is a graduate of Central Lee High School in Donnellson, Iowa. She earned an associate’s degree in psychology with a minor in computer technology from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
