One thing that comes up often in coaching is people having multiple skill sets. I always advocate for focusing your marketing on one amazing skill that you have.

Yes, yes I know, people don't fit in square pegs.

I'm actually a designer and developer but 99% of people know me for development. It's what I market myself as. But when I have needed to, I change my marketing to focus on design.

Your resume is not your historical record. It's a marketing doc. What do you want your future to focus on?

What's the one thing you are amazing at that you want people to know about?

Let me ask you another way, would you rather go to a buffet that has sushi, pizza, burritos, and pad thai or go to the best sushi place you can?

In this job market, specialization wins. Very few of us that can successfully market multiple skill sets. Notice I didn't say, have multiple skill sets.

I said market a single amazing skill. Nothing wrong with knowing multiple skills, much easier to market one main one. It slices it dices it juliennes is only good for kitchen tools.

I know many of you might disagree with me on this.

That's ok, the hiring market, especially in tech has made it clear.

Don't be a buffet. Be a top chef.

Show the world your 10,000 hours at one skill.

Be incredibly amazing and known for that one skill.

You will greatly reap the benefits.
